(This was a long-overdue review that was originally scheduled for the start of May 2024.)
Ever since I was introduced to 10 Minute Solution: Carb Burner, I was introduced to a variety of 10 Minute Solution titles. (As of April 21, 2024 I have received the 10 Minute Solution: Pilates DVD). There are a variety of options when it comes to selecting the right solution for you, and Anchor Bay Entertainment has been distributing these bite-sized workouts for over a decade. Grace Bridge Resale actually has some fitness DVDs in the front of their Frisco location, next to the Goodwill. I got this DVD and Denise Austin: Yoga Body Burn in November 2023. I’d have to say that the “solutions” that work for me are primarily cardio-based.
To begin, Kristin Jacobs comes out looking like a perky Victoria’s Secret model with a vibrant personality. There are five 10 minute workouts on this DVD:
- Hip Hop Basics
- Fat Burning Funk
- Edgy Grooves
- Body Re-Mix
- Cardio Street Heat
As with all the 10 minute workouts on this DVD, a step first isolates the lower body motions and then adds the upper body motions to it. Then it will get repeated a few times so you can add your own style to it when you combine it with other steps you learned. At the end of the first 5 minutes you will be able to perform a basic choreography with the steps learned before moving on to the next half of the routine, which uses a different audio track. The music is original, but fun to dance to once you memorize each choreography.
Hip Hop Basics
The first segment teaches some basic hip hop steps while engaging the core, which is a pretty good segment for beginners. I loved her outfit that she wears because it’s very vibrant and colorful.
Fat Burning Funk
These stylized dance moves are my favorite, yet they show passion and expression throughout the routines. For some of the travelling steps in this routine, I had to modify them so I could fit inside of the space that I have.
Edgy Grooves
The choreography in this one was an interesting choice, but it involves a lot of sliding and twisting. If you are on a carpeted floor, you might as well skip this segment or take off your shoes to do these steps. I still enjoy this one, despite the fact that I was mostly uncoordinated.
Body Re-Mix
This segment features some flirty hip hop steps and twists but she still “travels” across the room. While utilizing a small space, I can make the most out of the movement patterns.
Cardio Street Heat
This segment is pretty unique because of the way that Kristin combines exaggerated hip hop movements along with some cardio, which adds a lot of flair to the routine. The moves are syncopated and are in rhythm with the music, which makes the choreography fun to master.
Final Thoughts
This was a fun way to learn some cool new hip hop steps, and the instructor was pretty groovy. I might recommend this particular 10 Minute Solution workout for beginners, but you need to have some dance experience because Kristin explains and demonstrates the moves fast. There are some twisting movements incorporated into some of the segments, so I would recommend that you not wear shoes during some of the choreography demonstrations.
